We’re looking for children from around the UK who have something to say.
We’re currently looking for children, aged between 4-6 years old, to take part in the creation of our new theatre show The Playground, which is in the early stages of development. The show will be dreamt up by children but performed by adults for adults (although children will be able to see the show too). We hope to create a fun, entertaining and inspiring show for grown-ups using the words, imagination, humour and honesty of children. We hope to shine a light on the absurdities of adult life as seen through the eyes of young people today.
‘I’m not joking. I’m not kidding. I’m not playing. Mummy I need chocolate’
Sophie, age 3
‘Fog is just clouds that fell down’
Dylan, age 3
‘Sometimes I like to listen to Taylor Swift in my room and cry about cats that have died’
Hannah, age 4
We’ll be running a series of interviews and workshops with young people to find out what they think of the world. These sessions will involve a mix of play, chat, fun and games and will be led by Charlie Raine (a theatre maker and facilitator specialising in children’s theatre with an MA in Theatre for Young People from Rose Bruford) and The Six Twenty’s Artistic Director Melanie Rashbrooke. We’re running a series of different sessions:
- Group sessions (with small groups of between 4-8 young people)
- Friendship pairings – interviews and play sessions with two close friends
- One-on-one interviews and play sessions
In these sessions we’ll explore imagination, creativity and communication. The sessions will initially take place in Newcastle and London.
If you know an inspiring and opinionated young person who you think would enjoy taking part and enjoy sharing their thoughts on the world with us then please drop us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org with ‘The Playground’ in the subject line and we’ll be in touch to let you know more about the project and how they can get involved. Alternatively you can call us on 0191 274 2318 to find out more.
