In March 2020, we began development on Redcoat; a new show created in collaboration with associate artist and Mixtaper Lewis Jobson.
Based on Lewis’s experiences as a Redcoat, the show fuses new writing, devised theatre and comedy.
The project was awarded a Live Theatre new writing bursary and enjoyed 3 work-in-progress performances at Live Theatre in 2020 as part of Elevator Festival.
“Fuelled by a likeable and energetic performance by Jobson – who it’s pretty much impossible not to be charmed by – this delightfully upbeat piece was an absolute joy. Tempered with enough shade and nuance to stop it being too saccharine, it’s nonetheless not afraid to just embrace the joyful silliness of having a job where ‘swanning’ is an actual requirement, and you spend a lot of your time hanging around with workmates dressed like dinosaurs.”
What people say
“Redcoat was one of my favourite shows I’ve ever seen. So fun and touching. Would like to have more shows like this on the main stage!”
“So entertaining, uplifting and full of energy”
Audience feedback from March 2020 R&D showings
Setting fire to what theatre can be, we fuse new writing, live music and devised theatre together to make shows that are relevant and responsive to the modern world. Beginning well before the curtain rises and long after it drops, this isn’t sit down shut up theatre; it’s theatre for a great night out.
